Honoring Leona's Life
Leona Marie Ricks passed away on July 24th, 2024 at the age of 48.
Born into a military family in Augusta GA, Leona traveled the world at a young age. After graduating from Laguna Hills High School, Leona matriculated at Georgia State University, where she studied actuarial science and went on to become an actuary at Oliver Wyman. While her life has since taken several turns, her perseverance during even the hardest of years was an inspiration to everyone she met, many of whom became lifelong friends. In the last decade of her life, Leona had a successful career in the film industry and cultivated a homestead ‘Aylawood’ where she welcomed friends, family, and her feline friends. Her house, which she designed and built with her own hands, later became a haven for a family of cats and goats.
A woman with many talents, she found joy in reading, writing, learning, cooking and woodworking. She enjoyed playing and watching tennis and relished spending time with her animals (cats, dog, and goats) and friends.
She is survived by her mother, Donna B, her father, Donald Ricks, and her brothers, Danny Ricks, James Ricks and Jim Ricks. She also leaves behind her cherished dog Ayla and her beloved cats Penny, Thimble, Button, and Toupee.
Please join us in Atlanta on September 15, 2024 as we gather to celebrate Leona's beautiful life.
In Loving Memory of Leona Ricks
JULY 24TH, 2024
Leona was an uncommon soul. The kind that stands out against the landscape of your past as a person you were fortunate to have met. The kind you both admired and envied for how naturally gifted she was. She was a woman comfortable in any crowd, but more importantly she was someone around whom you were naturally at ease, even if you’d met only moments before. Perhaps this was because she could speak to nearly any subject, be it the philosophical musing of Ayn Rand or the best way to fix a hole in drywall. Perhaps it was the intensity of her passion, the kind that pulled you in and made you excited about that new walkway for her cats that she was working on. Whatever it was, she was remarkable.
